About Fiona
British born, Fiona has been living in the central region of Portugal for 14 years, the mountains and lakes reminiscent of her childhood home in Scotland, also having travelled in Australia and Southern Africa these wild landscapes inspire her.
Fiona graduated with a BA Hons in wood metal ceramics and plastics, realising soon into her journey of artistic expression that the tactile was as important as the visual.
9 years ago fate led her to an abandoned wool factory near Gouveia. This ignited a relationship with wool and other fibres that continues to both thrive and challenge. Her inspirations range from our environments, internal and external, story telling and theatre. The question of containment is a regular feature. A line in a poem often causes the leap into a new piece of work.

“the best textile exhibition I have seen”
I visited your exhibition today and now I understand why you told the gallery that you are tactile as well as a visual artist. Your piece based on Plato’s quote was so moving.
